"GEN-QUALIA" and "GEN-ANIMA"

Two types of Lightroom presets by photographer Hiroki.Nose, who captures beauty in quiet light. "GEN-QUALIA" is designed to respond to light in cloudy, rainy, foggy weather, and at dawn and dusk, imbuing colors and textures with depth and richness, creating a profound image. "GEN-ANIMA" softly fades shadows and adjusts the color temperature to neutral, creating a film-like texture while preserving the atmosphere of the moment the photo was taken. "GEN-QUALIA" brings out the beauty in light, and "GEN-ANIMA" deepens the impression of encountering a subject. Each approaches photography differently to enhance its charm.

*Each preset includes two file formats: "dng" and "xmp."

"My photos rarely feature blue skies. I've always pursued the light and atmosphere that only emerge in cloudy, rainy, or pre-dawn conditions. I want people who've used 'bad weather' or 'quiet light' as reasons not to shoot to try these presets. There's a unique beauty in that kind of light. One more thing I value is that the feeling of pressing the shutter button remains in the photo even after development. I've focused on that single point as I've worked with developing images. GEN-QUALIA is a preset that brings out the beauty in quiet light and adds a deeper dimension. GEN-ANIMA is a preset that imbues the feeling of encountering a subject into the photo as color. Both were created based on my actual developing style, incorporating my approach to photography itself. Preset ① "GEN-QUALIA"

"I love blue skies. I love the expanse and crispness when I look up at the sky. But I don't want to photograph blue skies. Cloudy days, rainy days, the chilly air before dawn – these are the times I enjoy shooting. It's a waste to think that you can't shoot because the weather is bad, or that you can't get up early enough in the morning. Bright, clear light is uniform. But cloudy light is alive. Rain changes textures, and fog creates a unique sense of distance. Morning light has an atmosphere unique to that time. I created GEN-QUALIA to engrave the depth and richness found in such light into colors and textures. It is the preset that best responds to light in cloudy, rainy, foggy weather, and at dawn and dusk. While it may not be suitable for clear, blue-sky days, it has the power to finish a photo taken at other times with deep beauty. For an image that captivates with depth, not brightness."

Preset ② "GEN-ANIMA"

"When I take photos, I always think about expressing the reason I wanted to capture that moment. A fleeting expression of an animal, an ordinary moment in everyday life, someone walking through fog. There's always a reason for pressing the shutter. I want to value the moments when my body moves before my mind thinks. If I wanted to capture it, that's enough for me.
This GEN-ANIMA softly fades shadows and adjusts the color temperature to neutral, creating a film-like texture. Instead of drastically changing colors, it deepens the atmosphere of the moment it was taken. This further etches the reason I wanted to capture it. The 'life' that the subject holds emerges as color. The feeling the photographer experienced remains clearly in a single photo. That's why I created this preset."
